Susan the Sphynx
This week I got to photograph one of the most unusual subjects I’ve had in front of my camera: a hairless cat. I really didn’t know much about hairless cats before this, just that they looked angry most of the time. But looks can be deceiving!
This is Susan (great name, eh?). She belongs to Virginia (ya, Virginia, from the Woofy’s videos!). When I saw Susan I knew I had to photograph her.
Susan came to Virginia as a rescue, and she has quickly found her way into the family. According to Virginia, she is the most “dog-like” cat she’s ever had. She loves to be around people, tear around the house, and provide lots of entertainment. It didn’t take long for Susan to get comfortable in the studio. In not time she was purring and playing while she had her portrait taken.
Her body is quite soft, too. And as you would expect, Susan loves warmth, so a good cuddle is welcome.
My studio is portable, so I can bring it to you! That is especially helpful with cats, who can have trouble adapting to new surroundings. If you have ever thought about having professional portraits of your cat, drop me a line! I’d love to chat about the possibilities.
Here are more shots of Susan. Enjoy!
Eunice
Wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, friend, caregiver, volunteer, nurse. These are a few of the words that describe Eunice, a beautiful lady that I had the pleasure of photographing recently. But don't think that this is all there is to this youthful woman. She is also an avid biker rider and world traveler, in fact her motto on Facebook is, "stop doing it in your head....and just do it!".
Thank you Eunice, for your beautiful smiles and wonderful company.
Special thanks to Kayla Rae from Sun Kissed Beauty Bar for the amazing hair and makeup.
The Johnson Sisters - Comox Valley Photographer
Jennifer Johnson was the winner of a complementary session I donated to the YANA gala fundraiser this year. If you haven't heard of YANA, it is a great organization that provides families with financial support when a child is receiving medical treatment over in Vancouver.
Originally this was going to be a family session, but the Johnson's are moving to Ontario very soon and unfortunately Jennifer's husband has to go for work earlier than expected. So, it became a sisters and dogs session instead!
We went to my favourite location, Kye Bay. For April, we have been having some pretty amazing weather. There were people suntanning and playing in the water while we were there.
The two dogs, Buddy and Max, were happy to be at the beach but I think they had other things in mind than posing for pictures! They were quite happy walking up and down the beach with the girls.
At the end of the session it was time to play! Buddy looked like a puppy as he splashed in the water. Sadly, Jennifer informed me this week that Buddy passed away from cancer shortly after our session. He will be missed terribly by the family and will remain forever in their hearts. Jennifer said that the timing was just right for their session, and that now they will have some great portraits to remember Buddy and the time they spent in the Comox Valley. All the best to you in Ottawa, Johnson family!
Ben - Comox Cat Photography
Benny the cat came by the studio recently for his very own photo shoot, and I got the impression that he was totally stoked about being a model.
This cat has many talents! He can sit and shake a paw (I've never seen a cat do that before!).
Ben is owned by friends of mine, Julia and Amiel. They haven't had Ben that long, but they are sure in love with him. And I can see why. He has loads of personality.
Julia and Amiel found out about Ben through my daughter Jessica, who works at Woofy's Pet Foods in Comox. They often have kittens up for adoption from Kitty Cat Pals, a volunteer organization here in the Comox Valley that helps match cats up with loving homes. Jessica thought that Ben would be just the cat for our friends, and she was right!
Thanks for coming, Ben! It was a blast to play with you and take your portrait!
I'll sign off with a portrait of beautiful Julia, who took the opportunity to get a quick headshot while she was here with Ben. Amiel, you are a lucky guy!
