The Snider Family - Comox Photographer

This week I've had the pleasure of hosting my nephew and his wonderful family this week all the way from Whitehorse, Yukon. They hadn't had a family portrait since their third child was born a year ago. So we headed out to Kye Bay for a quick photo shoot at the beach.

Memories are made at the beach! Summer is the perfect time for a beach family portrait, and a great way to remember your vacation in the Comox Valley. The evenings are long, the weather warm and the kids are out of school. If you'd like to find out more about how you can have this experience while at the same time creating some beautiful wall art for your home or office, please call me for an introductory consultation: (250) 650-7389.

Hope you are having a great summer!

Lewis - Comox Photographer

It is just so amazing to feel summer coming back to the Comox Valley. The warmth, the long days, and the sunsets are some of the things I love about this time of year. Recently I went out to Kye Bay to do some sunset shots of Lewis and his family. Lewis is a two year old Chocolate Lab who loves the beach and chasing balls (and ripping them to shreds)! He loves his family too.

Arsenault Family - Comox Photography

It was the last weekend of Spring Break, so the Arsenault family and I seized the opportunity to do a family session out at Kye Bay (my first outdoor family session of the year!). Jason and Katie are both teachers so I think they were enjoying their last bit of holidays before school started on Monday.

Even though the weather was chilly it was a great excuse to get nice and close together, and in my opinion that is what family photography is all about! Connection is everything.

But, you gotta have some fun too:

One of my signature shots is the family walking along the beach, chatting among themselves. I always wonder what they are talking about!

Amazing family, perfect location. Now if the weather would only warm up a little I'll be totally content! Is this your year for a family portrait session? I would love to create some beautiful wall art for you to cherish for years to come. Contact me for details.

Tran Family - Courtenay Family Photographer

Baby it's cold outside! I'm not complaining, though. After two solid months of rain I'm happy for some sunshine, even if it means bundling up a little. Over the winter I work out of my home studio and recently I had the pleasure of photographing the Tran family of Courtenay.

This active family was lots of fun and (as usual) the kids had lots of energy! Volunteering with children for over 20 years definitely helps with keeping kids engaged. Sometimes giving the parents a "break" in the other room results in great shots like this:

You can only be formal for so long. There are those times when families just need to let loose!

Thank you, Remi and Shannon, for a giving me the opportunity to photograph your beautiful family.

Amanda - Courtenay Portrait Photography

One of the joys of going on vacation is getting to hang out with family members who I don't see very often. Amanda is my oldest niece on my side of the family (actually she is my double niece because my sister and I married brothers but that's a whole other blog post!).

Amanda recently graduated with a diploma in visual and creative arts and this fall is heading to Georgian College to study jewelry design. Needless to say, she is a very creative girl!

Photography is a passion that Amanda and I both share so we inevitably "talk shop" lots when we visit. On a hunt for a new camera (and on a student's budget), it has reminded me how expensive photography can be. I recently saw a meme going around Facebook that said: "teach your children photography... they won't have enough money to buy drugs"! How true!

Amanda also loves music as well as art so it was appropriate to do part of her photo shoot with her guitar. I am usually not a 'lens flare' fan but I think it worked in this image:

Time to do an album, Amanda!

I love photographing teen and young adult girls because they are totally engaged in the process and have lots of ideas to try. If you have a daughter celebrating a milestone this year, I would love to have the opportunity to preserve some precious memories for you. Contact me to find out more.

Country Girl - Teen Photography

My niece Natalie is a real Canadian country girl. She loves animals and fishing, and is a fierce hockey player!
On any given summer day when she's not working at her family's ice cream shop, you will probably find her jumping off 20 foot cliffs at the cottage, or fishing at one of her town's best fishing holes.

So it was appropriate for this photo shoot that she showcase the outdoorsy girl that she is, but also her feminine, "girlie" side. We used a beautiful old barn as a backdrop and had lots of fun goofing around.

Teenagers grow and change so fast. I know because I have two! Don't wait til they're grown up and gone. Contact me to find out how you can book a photo shoot for your teen today!

The Snider Family - Courtenay Photography

Last week we had the good fortune of hosting my husband's brother Steve, his wife Deb and sweet little daughter Tori at our new home in Courtenay. They were visiting all the way from Kitchener, Ontario and this was their first trip to the Comox Valley. So, we planned for a fun photo shoot at my favourite location, Kye Bay.

We had perfect weather for the week they were here (not one raindrop fell on us the whole time!).  Dave and I toured them around and got to show them the spectacular scenery here in the Comox Valley as well as some other areas of the Island, including: Paradise Meadows, Elk Falls, Long Beach, and Cathedral Grove.

Although they left on Thursday, we are happy that we'll be seeing these guys again next month in Ontario for our nephew's wedding.

Is it time for your family portrait? Click here to contact Sharon to book your session (the session fee is waived for the month of June!).

Saying Good-bye to the Hair - Courtenay Photography

My daughter Jessica has had long blonde hair for a few years now, and recently she made the decision to donate about a foot of it to an organization that makes wigs for cancer patients. This is the third time she has gone through "the big chop" as she calls it.

She wanted to get some shots before heading to Urban Hair Esthetics Studio in Comox for her cut. I was happy to oblige, so we headed down to the beach for a "mini" photo shoot. Good-bye long hair!
